MYSURIA - PROGRAM RM45JUTA - INISIATIF TENAGA SURIA DEMI MANFAAT RAKYAT

LAUNCHING OF e-NEM ONLINE SYSTEM FOR NET ENERGY METERING APPLICATIONS.

Putrajaya, 31 October 2016.
To complement the current Feed-in Tariff (FiT) mechanism to encourage the deployment of Renewable Energy as meted out in Malaysia Eleventh Plan (RMK-11), Y. B. Datuk Seri Panglima, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water had recently launched the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme on 6th October 2016.
As the implementing agency for this Net Energy Metering scheme, SEDA Malaysia has developed an online system for registered electrical contractors to submit NEM applications on behalf of their clients.

TESLA ANNOUNCES ITS NEW SOLAR ROOF, AND A SECOND VERSION OF ITS GIANT POWERWALL BATTERY

Tesla finally announced its long-awaited solar roof at an event yesterday evening, along with the successor to the company's Powerwall home battery, the Powerwall 2.
The solar roofing tiles—a product of Tesla and Solar City, which Tesla is in the process of acquiring—are made of glass and are designed to completely replace the shingles that are already on your roof, as opposed to solar panels that are designed to be mounted on top of what's already there. According to Musk, this glass construction means the panels should be particularly long-lived, and he predicts that 50 years is a reasonable expectation as to lifespan.

MALAYSIA TO IMPLEMENT NET ENERGY METERING NEXT YEAR

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is expected to implement net energy metering (NEM) next year, which allows self-consumption of electricity generated by solar photovoltaic system while selling the excess energy to utility companies.
“If the users are producing more than what they are consuming, they get paid by utility companies such as Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd.
“This will be the first (of its kind) in the region,” Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said.
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the seventh International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia’s dinner in Kuala Lumpur.
The Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia had said that the country would be implementing its 500 megawatts (MW) of capacity for NEM starting 2016 until 2020 with 100MW capacity limit a year in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah.

WHAT IS NET ENERGY METERING (NEM)?

The concept of NEM is that the energy produced from the solar PV system installed will be consumed first, and any excess to be exported and sold to the distribution licensee (such as TNB /SESB ) at the prevailing Displaced Cost prescribed by the Energy Commission.

This scheme is applicable to all domestic, commercial and industrial sectors as long as they are the customers of TNB (Peninsular Malaysia) or SESB (Sabah and FT Labuan). The PV systems are allowed to be installed at available rooftops or car porch only within their own premise.

Based on FiT experience, solar PV is a technology that requires minimal construction and with high take up rate compared to other RE technologies. One factor driving such growth is the declining cost of solar PV systems in recent years. As solar PV technology is more applicable to the NEM, it is the only technology whereby the public at large can play their role in addressing climate change by generating the clean energy, hence reduce the energy consumption from electricity generated by fossil fuel powered generators.

NEM scheme is ideally suitable to complement the current FiT and Large Scale Solar programmes. The NEM scheme is widely adopted globally and can further contribute in achieving the national RE target, and reduce dependency on imported fossil fuels.

OVERVIEW OF NET ENERGY METERING (NEM)

Malaysia will be implementing its 500MW capacity under the Net Energy Metering programme commencing 1st November 2016 until 2020 with 100MW capacity limit a year in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah. The NEM is a solar photovoltaic (PV) programme announced by the YAB Prime Minister under the 2016 budget.

This is to complement the current Feed-in Tariff (FiT) mechanism and encourage the deployment of renewable energy (RE) as meted out in Malaysia Eleventh Plan (RMK-11). NEM is executed by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology & Water, regulated by the Energy Commission (EC), with Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia as the implementing agency.

As the world wide cost of solar PV system continues to fall significantly each year, the energy consumer can benefit by generating their own energy using solar PV via net metering scheme.
